Operations and Civic Practice Director
The Operations and Civic Practice Director (“Director”) is an employee reporting to the General and Artistic Director (“G&AD”) for Opera Steamboat (“Opera”). This full-time salaried position has responsibilities in the areas of marketing/public relations, development/fundraising, education/civic practice, opera production administration, and organizational administration. The Director is involved in production of concerts, rehearsals, education and civic practice activities, and donor events and assists with opera production management. The Director works closely with the G&AD, providing logistical input and support and complements the G&AD’s vision.
- Marketing and Public Relations
- Maintains a healthy communication with staff, Board, Advisors, supporters, and the community
- Plans and executes marketing campaigns
- Edits all documents for publication or communication with the public
- Prepares press releases and other marketing documents
- Development and Fundraising
- Works with G&AD in planning and execution of donor fundraising events and campaigns, including mailings
- Prepares and sends thank you notes to donors and sponsors
- Works with G&AD in building donor and sponsor relationships
- Helps manage and update the donor database
- Education and Civic Practice
- Coordinates in-person and virtual events in collaboration with other community stakeholders to develop networks and act on opportunities to further Opera’s mission
- Coordinates educational programs with schools and other community stakeholders , including presenting programs in-person at schools, conducting surveys, and collecting data
- Coordinates civic practice activities with guest staff and community stakeholders
- Opera Production Administration
- Works with G&AD in planning and scheduling opera productions, concerts, auditions, rehearsals, tours, retreats, and workshops; assists in booking facilities and making other logistical arrangements
- Helps with the sale of tickets for concerts and other events; accounts for ticket sale proceeds
- Assists in arranging housing for all visiting artists and production staff
- Coordinates housing arrangements for the Opera Artist Institute, including logistical support of linens and supplies and inspection of premises before and after our occupancy
5. Organizational Administration
- Helps develop and manage volunteer program
- Maintains Opera’s office and computer systems
- Files banking, customer, and vendor receipts and disbursements records
- Answers the telephone and returns voice mails
- Makes bank deposits and handles some financial record keeping
- Collects, opens, and distributes mail
6. Software Knowledge
- The Director should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- The Director should be proficient working with databases such as customer or donor relationship management databases 7. Miscellaneous
- Bachelor’s degree required
- The Director may be asked to drive visiting artists or other visiting professionals and/or pick up or deliver items in his/her/their own car; Director may be asked to drive a moving truck or van during production times, moves, or other Opera-related activities
- The Director will have access to the Opera office and files. Information about Opera finances and operations is proprietary to Opera and may not be shared with outside persons or organizations without specific permission from Opera.
